Camp Jacamo

(aka ovy camp)
San Gregorio, CA

OVY is located halfway up the San Francisco peninsula, nestled between the Pacific Ocean to the west and old growth redwoods to the east. The camp consists of 100 beautiful acres including redwoods, hilltops with amazing views, hiking trails, and a creek! Seemed like a real nice place to tie the knot.

M&J

Morgan and Jaclyn first met the way many modern couples do - on the internet! Their first date was a quick coffee in downtown San Francisco which led to many more dates, three cozy apartments, and now… this wedding!!

Morgan

Morgan grew up in beautiful Laguna Beach with his older brother, Henry; twin brother, Nolan; older sister, Erica; and wonderful parents and most generous hosts to many get-togethers, Cindy and Robert. Growing up in Orange County is where Morgan developed his love for the ocean and the outdoors. Morgan went to college at UC Santa Cruz (not too far from our venue!) where he studied Latin American History, continued to surf, delivered pizzas, and drank lots of beers with his rowdy friends. From there, Morgan moved out to Maui for a bit to lifeguard, and also spent some time in New Zealand cruising around in a stinky campervan with Nolan and his good pal Neal (our officiant!). Morgan landed back in Orange County for a few years, began to reconsider his career, and also broke his ankle giving him lots of time to think and study. Morgan was accepted into a competitive coding bootcamp in San Francisco called Hack Reactor. He moved up to San Francisco in August of 2014 (with the broken ankle!) with the intention to move back to Orange County once the program was completed. Plans changed toward the end of his program when he was offered a job in San Francisco and first met his future bride, the amazing and charming and hilarious and (dance floor) talented Jaclyn Vickery.

Jaclyn

<

Jaclyn grew up in Keene, NH (where Jumanji was filmed!!!) along with her younger/twin brother, Chris; baby sister, Kate; and the funnest parents ever Scott and Kim! Jaclyn spent summers visiting Cape Cod, at Girl Scout camp, visiting Grandma Sue in San Francisco, and attending the biggest Vickery event of the year - Grey Fox Bluegrass festival! Jaclyn grew up loving music and dancing and the outdoors and doing whatever it took to make her friends laugh (qualities she attributes to the funnest parents ever). After High School, Jaclyn studied Psychology and Elementary Ed. at the University of Rhode Island and then moved down to South Carolina for a bit. She ended up back in NH, saved up all her money waitressing, took an epic European couch surfing trip with her good friend Gretchen, and then started to think about where she would go next. Jaclyn’s friend Josh had been living out in San Francisco for a few years, and told her he had an open room in his apartment. That (along with the fond memories of visiting Grandma Sue!) was all she needed to purchase a one-way ticket. Jaclyn fell in love with San Francisco instantly. And after about three years, Jaclyn fell in love almost instantly again - with her future husband, the most handsome man in the world, the endlessly talented, and the love of her life - Morgan Plant!

<

Jaclyn and Morgan have spent the last five years completely inseparable and head-over-heels in love! They currently live near Ocean Beach so Morgan can get in all the surfing he wants, and spend many weekends out camping or traveling or spending time with their wonderful friends (including the same rowdy crew Morgan was drinking all the beers with at UCSC).

“Jacamo” is what Jaclyn’s brother Chris and wife Kayla call the couple, and it seems to be trending so we’re going with that as the theme for this wedding.

We can’t wait to get married!!!!!!!

While most of the wedding party will be bunking up under the stars, we understand that this isn’t everyone’s jam. We encourage anyone wary of the great outdoors to find accommodations in the nearby town of Half Moon Bay. HMB is a short 20-minute drive from the camp. Here are a few hotel options closest to the event:

FAQ

Is this a kid-friendly event?

We love kids, but our wedding weekend will not be child-proofed! Please leave your little ones at home if possible.

Are pets allowed?

Unfortunately pets are not allowed at the camp.

Can I bring a date?

If your invite was addressed to you and a guest, please bring them. If your invitation was addressed to you and you only, please do not. We’re limited on space and will not be able to accommodate unexpected guests.

What should I expect if I’m staying in a camping cabin?

The camping cabins are very basic. There are 8 bunks and one single bed in each cabin, sleeping 9 at the most. Each bed has a vinyl mattress, and you will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillows etc. There are no electrical outlets inside the cabins. Shared bathrooms with electrical outlets are located outside of the cabins. If you have a portable charger/extra battery for your phone, we’d recommend bringing it! See the Camping Cabin Page for more info

Is there cell service/Wifi at the camp?

Cell service can be spotty depending on your carrier, but Verizon seems to work pretty well. There is also WiFi access in some areas of the camp.

What should I wear to the wedding?

We’ll describe the event as “forest formal”. Most importantly, we want you to be comfortable and to dress for longevity! Most of the ceremony/reception will be outdoors on natural ground, so dress accordingly! We’d also suggest bringing layers, as it will get chilly in the evening. There will be plenty of room for you to store a bag/extra layers so don’t worry about packing some extra items!

What’s the parking situation?

There is plenty of parking on site!

Can I use Uber/Lyft to get back to my hotel?

There is Uber/Lyft service in the area, but it’s pretty limited so we wouldn’t bank on this. There will be shuttle transportaion on the wedding day picking up and dropping off at Half Moon Bay Lodge.

Can I bring an RV?

RVs are not allowed on the property. However, we would suggest Outdoorsy or Escape Campervans for a cozy camping setup.

Are there showers available on site?

For guests staying onsite, there are 3 shower options. There are showers located in the men’s restroom located near Scheid Hall, on the pool deck, and in Willow Glen. Please note that similar to the rest of the summer camp, these are not glamorous. Be sure to pack a towel and a pair of flip flops might not be a bad idea either.

Is there electricity for phone charging and hair curling?

There is no electricity in the camping cabins, but there are outlets in the bathrooms and around the property. Be prepared to share the outlets with everyone else, and definitely bring a portable charger/extra battery for your phone if you have one!

What is there to do in the area?

  • The property itself contains 100 acres to explore with hiking trails
  • Check out the incredible Redwoods! You can see these on site, as well as the nearby Heritage Grove trail
  • San Gregorio State beach is located only a 15 minute drive at the base of La Honda Blvd at Hwy 1.
  • There is an epic General Store located a 6 minute drive down La Honda Blvd towards the ocean that has a bar, coffee, tons of amazing trinkets, and occasionally live music!
  • Apple Jack’s Saloon in La Honda is one of our favorite spots! Built in the 1870s, this biker bar was recently named among the top 32 dive bars in the country (#12).
  • You can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant! Located in nearby Woodside, CA and a great place for a bite to eat or a beer.
  • Visit Half Moon Bay or Santa Cruz - both are beautiful coastal towns with lots to see, eat, and drink!

I’m camping on site. What should I pack?

  • Layers!
  • A flashlight/headlamp
  • Bedding/Sleeping bag and pillow if you are staying in a camping cabin or a tent
  • A towel
  • Toiletries
  • Snacks for pre-wedding Saturday
  • Any outdoor field games that you may have
  • An instrument if you have one (for campfire jams)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Shower sandals
  • Sunblock
  • Insect repellent
  • Hiking / tennis shoes
  • Yoga Mat (If you’d like to participate in Sat morning Yoga!)
  • Good spirits and positive vibes!!!

Are there hotels blocked off somewhere?

Since most of the wedding party will be staying onsite, we did not block any rooms off for the event. We would suggest staying in Half Moon Bay and seeing our hotel recommendations under the “Staying there” section

Where are the bride and groom staying?

We will be camping on site with the guests!
